I had a quick breakfast and walked into town.
I had agreed to meet the lads at 0845 to commence walking, I got a phone call from Jean to say that we were going to get a bus instead, to visit St Cirq Lapopie, apparently it is a beautiful place that has a fine restaurant, I of course agreed, you may be thinking I am not taking this walk seriously, I am, the trouble is I am easily lead !!!!
The bus arrived on time, reggae was blasting out of its speakers and the driver was the coolest bus driver I have ever seen, I think I got a whiff of ganja.
We had to walk a mile to get to get to St Cirq Lapopie, it transpired that by the end of the day we would end up walking further than the planned walk.
I will let the photos speak for themselves, what an amazing place.
One of the finest medieval villages I have ever seen, this country just keeps on surprising me with its beauty.
Sorry I could not resist it,
It was time for lunch.
This is slowly turning into a gastronomic extravaganza
Nothing like seeing a pilgrim roughing it.
I was sad to leave but we had a twelve mile walk ahead of us.
More beautiful scenery.
We stopped to ask this chap ( how very French ) the way, because we were taking a different route, due to our wonderful detour, I could not believe it when he offered to put us up in house, when we informed him we had accomadation booked , he ran us into Limogne in his car.
Dog on a blog time.
Time for a quick beer before I checked into my Gite .
At last I have found one.
I had a shower, did my washing, then went back into town to meet the team for dinner at their Gite.
Time to spot the socks.
Another great day spent on the Le Puy Camino, tomorrow I will be walking on my own as I want an early start as my legs hurt and I want to walk slowly, the team will catch up with me in Cahors on Wednesday.
I am delighted to say that Jeremy my cousin and Sheila my sister in law will be joining me in Cahors on Wednesday.
Stats for today.
Walked 13 miles
Distance covered 171 miles
Distance to go 264 miles
Elevation gain 1565 feet
Elevation loss 1070 feet.

ReplyDeleteThose little stone houses are really interesting. I believe they are similar the Trullo of Italy, as in they were built to house tenant farmers etc but only as dry stone. When the local tax inspector came round to conduct his survey the inhabitants would dismantle the little crofts using the stones to build a temporary wall and re-erect atone the tax man had gone away. That way the owner of the land saved money on taxes attached to dwellings.
ReplyDeleteJust shows that even in medieval times tax men were bastards and everyone did their best to screw them over, cool...!!!
