We had breakfast and made ourselves lunch from all the French bread that was provided. We checked out and were on our way by 0830, today was going to be a walk of two halves.
Yet again we climbed, the wind was getting up and it was quite cold.
It was not long before we arrived at La Chaze de Peyre, there were more walkers today. What is interesting is that no one says " Buen Camino " just plain old " Bonjour " as most walkers are not heading onto St Jean or Santiago, they are far too sensible I hear you say.
We walked on Tarmac to Lasbros.
We came across Chapelle de Bastide, please note scallop.
We passed through the village and were soon back onto tracks.
We had walked for 6 miles when we decided to stop for some chocolate and a foot check.
We continued to climb as the landscape changed , which coincided with the wind really getting up.
Gone were the lush green fields and lovely forests, we were in a landscape that resembled Dartmoor.
By now we were walking straight into the teeth of a gale.
Everywhere we looked were fields of small daffodils.
The strong winds were really slowing us down, thankfully after ten miles we found a Gite and stopped for a cup of tea and enjoyed our rolls that we had made earlier, it was so nice to be out of the wind. Please note that Heather changed into something far more sensible!!!
We only had seven more miles to go, by now we were getting really tired, the cold and strong winds were sapping our strength.
The strong winds combined with the going under foot made for slow progress.
We were back onto roads for the next two miles, by now the wind was so strong at times, we could barely stand.
Time for dogs on a blog.
On we walked.
Please note marker on rock.
Just when we thought we had arrived we had one last steep climb and then we dropped down into Nasbinals,
Our hotel is three miles away from Nasbinals so our hotelier came and picked us up and we checked in.
If you look carefully you can see my socks dangling from the top right window.
We had a lovely evening meal, the local dish is cheese and mashed potato.
Walked 17 miles
Footsteps 35937
Distance covered 72 miles
Distance to go 394 miles.
Today has been another demanding day, but we would not have missed it for anything.Heavy rain is forcast for tomorrow.
How are the toes keeping up and the Achilles? Hope all is well - like the "spot the socks competition"...
