I did not see another walker going my way .
The above photo really typifies the whole of today's walk, I was walking in woodland virtually the whole time.
I dropped a stone into this well, I never heard the splash it was that deep, having said that I am a bit deaf
It began to dawn on me that I was not going to come across a bar or a shop to buy any food today, I only had some nuts half a bar of chocolate and my water bottle, I was to be proved right there was nothing, I had to really eke out what little I had . This is so different to the other Camino's I have been on where bars and shops are plentiful, I learnt a lesson today and I will not get caught out again.
Sadly Bach had no shops.
This chap was walking the other way with his donkey, he was doing a Camino, but I could get no sense out of him as to where they were going.
I could not help but notice that the donkey looked a bit sad.
I sat on a farmers wall and took my boots and socks off and had a twenty minute rest.
Then it was back on the road, I had been walking for 14 miles and it was beginning to tell.
This is the first time I have seen a busy road in two weeks, such is the remoteness of this amazing walk .
I was climbing again .
I only had about two mouthfuls of water left with 6 miles to go, I was parched .
Who possibly lives in a house like this ? I half expected a Hobbit to beckon me in.
I continued to climb.
Dog on a blog time .
I was getting so thirsty I decided to walk into someone's garden and use their outside tap to fill my water bottle up.
After 9 hours of walking Cahors came into sight, I had done it!!!
I checked into my hotel and had a shower with all my clothes on, they were in need of a wash, believe me !!!
In case you are wondering how I can be so precise with the distances each day, please see below my gps watch which gives me all the data etc, even down to the calories burnt.
Spot the socks is an easy challenge today, I will make up for it tomorrow.
Stats for today.
Distance covered today 26 miles
Steps taken 55368
Distance to go 240 miles
Distance covered 220 miles
Elevation gain 1837 feet
Elevation loss 2966 feet
Today has been a tough day and if I am honest I have pushed myself far too hard , my left shoulder is killing me and my rib cage is causing me concern, I have broken all the rules and if I am to finish this walk, I have to be more sensible, I feel I have jeopardised the whole walk, even my Achilles is hurting again.
I will take some pain killers after I have eaten and I pray they will do the trick.
Thank goodness I have a day off tomorrow to recuperate.
Today will not happen again !!!!!
I look forward to seeing Jeremy and Sheila tomorrow .
The lads are half a day behind me, we will meet up again tomorrow night.Just had a fine meal on my own and I feel better for some food.
I bet that beer tasted wonderful after being that thirsty all day.... We can't see the socks, give us a clue.
ReplyDeleteThe sort of beer that would drive me nuts in a desert!
ReplyDeleteIt did taste good Andy just like the one in Ice cold in Alex
ReplyDeleteSorry Nick bit of an unfair one they were mixed in with my clothing
ReplyDeletebe careful - take rest days if you need them, & painkillers too. you don't want anything adverse to happen
ReplyDeleteHave got a day off today Steve, my blasted rib problem was caused by a sneeze would you believe, it has aggravated an old injury, I always get this pain in my shoulder after carrying the rucksack for some time , bloody nuisance, my goodness I was knackered after yesterday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a day, old man. Take good care of yourself until I'll be there to look after you. :)
DeleteOnce again amazing pictures..
Well done Peter - I bet you would have emptied your wallet for a cold beer and food half way along! sounds like you need an icebath!
ReplyDeleteI would have killed for a beer !!!
DeleteHi Peter - You really have found some stunning villages and scenery this walk. Unbelievable that these beautiful locations (and churches) exist in the middle of nowhere. The photo of last night's Steak and chips make the walk all worthwhile alone! Keep going, keep enjoying and I hope the trotters ribs and everything else hold out! Stu.
ReplyDeleteThis is a region of France you must come to Stu it is stunning, I will have put on about ten tons by the time I have finished.
ReplyDeleteI have really fallen amongst thieves !!!!
Hats of to you Peter for managing all that way alone, tired and thirsty! I bet that water and beer didn't last very long? Amazing pictures again. x
ReplyDeleteI used to go fishing down near Bordeaux and although it's a fair way West of Cahors it was stunning (and very hot!) If the calorie counter on your GPS watch is anything to go by, you'll struggle not to *lose* weight!
